God's Provision

It is God who steps into the scene and causes us to be aware of our need for salvation and He does this through the convicting ministry of the Holy Spirit. John 16:8 "And He (the Helper, the Holy Spirit), when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin, and righteous, and judgment;"

This is what God does so that unbelieving members of the human race (spiritually dead in sin) will listen to the good news. The good news of the gospel is explained in I Corinthians 15:3. "For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures."

In light of what Christ did for us on the Cross, we must see that man's efforts are useless in trying to gain the favor of God for eternal salvation. The Apostle Paul has told us that the gospel (good news) is the power of God unto salvation. He has further defined the gospel (good news) as the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The crucial question then becomes, what is man's part? In light of what God has done through Christ, what am I to do in order to be saved?
